Get to know me

My name is Georgina, and I am a fully qualified counselling professional who is passionate about talking therapy. I offer a down to earth approach, with genuine support and warmth, as you explore your issues and concerns in a safe and confidential space.

There are times in life when many of us feel overwhelmed, stuck, or face difficult choices, for many different reasons. It is in how we meet these challenges and work through them, that enables us to live life to our best potential. Many clients feel a sense of relief in sharing their concerns, where the whole self can be expressed and experienced fully in a non-judgemental environment. The decision to enter therapy and face your issues takes courage, and I will support you through the process.

Everyone experiences periods of stress, sadness, grief and conflict at some time in their lives and deciding that the challenges and frustrations that you may be facing are more than you can handle alone, can often be difficult and interwoven with questions and anxieties.

Therapy is a safe and confidential space to gain some clarity, to reflect on who you are, your relationships with others and to experience empathy, understanding, acceptance and encouragement. I will work with you to forge a strong collaborative relationship in order to create a secure environment together. I work phenomenologically, which simply means that I am seeking to understand your subjective and perceptual experience in order to find a way forward together.  I have a strong belief in the possibility that everybody has the potential for growth and change.

I believe that therapy should be driven by individual experience. Each person has a different internal world and will react accordingly. I therefore do not follow a 'one size fits all' approach. The interpersonal problems of the client will often manifest in the therapeutic relationship allowing for understanding and growth.

The world of therapy has changed from the distant and emotionally removed therapist to empathy and mutual humanity beyond that of the detached professional. After all, the reality is that we are all in this together and nobody is immune from the challenges of human existence. The co-created relationship that is built in the therapy session between client and therapist can be a powerful and unique experience. This is where you can dare to embrace the fullness of your lived experience as well as challenge yourself to explore new ways of being. In a joint quest to understand what is true for you, I believe you can achieve the insight to become a version of yourself that you desire to be.

My integrative approach draws on the valuable contributions of psychodynamic therapy and Person-Centred therapy, which enables me to tailor my approach to suit individual needs.

Through a trusting therapeutic relationship, you will have the opportunity to explore and connect whole heartedly to your thoughts and feelings, leading to greater levels of self-awareness, empowerment and self-growth. My approach is collaborative and places you as the expert on your life. Together we will work through whatever it is that you bring to the session; there is nothing that cannot be spoken of.

I offer open ended and long-term therapy for adults and children 11+ as well as couples and families. This can be discussed at the initial assessment over the phone.

I am a member of the BACP. This means my work adheres to the high standards set by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s ethical framework.
